SFO Celebrates Carnaval

Carnaval is a vibrant annual festival that takes place over Memorial Day weekend in San Francisco’s Mission District from May 23-24, 2026. SFO is proud to sponsor this year's celebration of Latinx, Caribbean and African diasporic traditions with dance, music, cuisine and visual arts.Carnaval San Francisco is a project of Cultura y Arte Nativa de las Americas (CANA).

Carnaval is San Francisco’s unique version of the Carnaval festivals celebrated around the world. Since its beginning in 1979 when 300+ drummers and dancers paraded in Precita Park, Carnaval San Francisco has grown into the largest multicultural festival on the West Coast and one of the City’s most popular events. The weekend-long celebration culminates with a dazzling 20 block-long Grand Parade through the Mission District with 3,000+ costumed performers, artist and floats.

In the terminals, get into the spirit of Carnaval with fun photo opportunities, live dance performances, and much more! Plus, check out SFO Museum'sLowrider Bikes: Familia y Cultura exhibition in the International Terminal showcasing the diverse lowriding lifestyle rooted in community, family, strength, and tradition.

La Copa Del Pueblo

For 2026, Carnaval San Francisco lifts high “La Copa del Pueblo”, the People’s Cup, a vibrant celebration of fútbol’s true heartbeat: the people who play it, love it, and live it. In anticipation of the World Cup coming to the Bay Area this June, this theme honors the joy found in dusty fields, neighborhood parks, and busy city streets, where the game belongs to everyone and every goal feels like a shared victory. Just like Carnaval, fútbol is about connection, creativity, and the unshakable energy of community.
